‘Oliver!’ Star Shani Wallis Leaves BGT Judges Reeling With Her Emotive Audition

Whether or not you recognize the name of singer and actress Shani Wallis, you have likely seen her face before, particularly if you have seen the 1968 film ‘Oliver!’ in which she took on a starring role as Nancy. Now, at 92 years of age, Wallis has auditioned for the current season of Britain’s Got Talent, and she left both the judges and audience reeling with her emotive audition.

As a lady of more mature years, when Wallis walked onstage it was clear that the judges didn’t really know what to expect; after all, it isn’t often that the show is frequented by contestants in their 90s. Even after disarming them with her sweet and polite demeanor, and once the judges realized who Wallis was, they still didn’t seem to be taking the audition completely seriously.

This all changed, however, when Wallis started to sing – her song of choice being ‘As Long As He Needs Me’, which she, of course, famously performed in the film version of ‘Oliver!’. The judges and the audience found themselves in awe of Wallis’ tear-jerking vocal performance, and few were surprised when all four judges gave the singer a ‘yes’, putting her through to the next round of the competition.

We have no doubt that many Music Man readers will be familiar with the film ‘Oliver!’, and by extension Shani’s starring role as Nancy.
