Randy Travis’s voice is one of a kind. A CMT recording of Randy singing with Josh Turner (before Randy’s stroke) resurfaced in HD, and fans can’t get enough of that husky voice! It’s clear Josh is so excited to sing with his hero in the 20 million view viral duet. The most replayed moment of the video comes at 1:10, when Randy sings those iconic low notes for the first time in the duet. The cheer from the crowd and Josh’s ear-to-ear grin in that moment are just too heartwarming!

As a young man, Josh was such a massive fan of Randy that he drove to the older singer’s hometown and turned up at his family property, hoping to meet the country legend’s dad. The honor that Josh feels as Randy sings Josh’s song with him on stage can be seen clearly on the younger star’s face throughout the duet. The Music Man has to say we could listen to these two voices all day!

CMT uploaded an HD cut of Randy and Josh’s duet on “Your Man” in December 2021, although the recording dates all the way back to 2006. Fans loved the duet and the bond between the two stars, and added comments such as “The way Josh looked at Randy and smiled when he hit that first low note will forever warm my heart” and “After Randy’s stroke Josh went to the hospital, and sat by his bed just singing to him. What a heart this man has!”

Josh’s honeyed bass baritone voice makes any performance of “Your Man” pop. It’s easy to see why the song hit number one on the US country chart, as it’s such a killer showcase for that sonorous voice. The South Carolina star also went viral for his acoustic performance of the hit at the Bing Lounge. The two-piece acoustic format just gives even more of a spotlight to his sublime vocals.

The Music Man readers might be interested to hear that Josh Turner’s relationship with Randy Travis went from fanboy to close friends and musical collaborators over the years. Josh told The Boot about his plan as a young man to head to Randy’s hometown of Marshville, North Carolina, to go to the singer’s family home and try to meet his dad. Randy’s dad wasn’t home at the time. Josh quipped that it was likely for the better, saying, “He probably would’ve met me at the door with a shotgun or something.” Josh did manage to meet Randy’s childhood neighbor, however, and she told him some stories from when the singer was growing up. Josh noted that Randy was “shocked” when he told him about the road trip many years later. Randy had a near-fatal stroke in 2013. This affected his ability to sing and even speak. As a result, he has not recorded any new studio albums since that time, although he has issued releases featuring archived vocal takes.
