When celebrity impersonator Philip Green rocked up to the stage of Britain’s Got Talent in 2013, he couldn’t have predicted that 11 years later, his hilarious audition would rack up a shocking 21 million views on YouTube!
But it’s no wonder this single audition went so viral. Philip’s oddball stage presence had judges Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden cackling before he’d even started his act, making nervous crazy eyes and ripping on his friend Christie’s old job with the absurd humour of a children’s TV presenter. When Philip finally kickstarted the impressions, the audience was already roaring.
Prior to auditioning, Philip had performed shows with BGT’s second season winner, George Sampson, who inspired Philip to try out for the show himself.
His first line, mimicking Natalie Cassidy, went down a storm as he led an imaginary exercise video pumping wide squats and making EastEnders in-jokes. Then, he mimicked Lorraine Kelly interviewing Stacey Solomon, both spot-on despite Stacey almost sounding like an Essex Vicky Pollard.
A classic “How Clean Is Your House” skit followed, with impressions of both Aggie MacKenzie and Kim Woodburn tearing the house down, before landing on a stellar impression of “Pineapple Dance Studios” star Louie Spence, complete with the splits.
Amanda Holden was first to sing her praise, realizing, “The brilliant thing about your act is you had us laughing before you even did anything,” with David Walliams adding, “You’re a very, very funny guy. I’d like to see some more of you in the act as well because you are hysterically funny as you as well.”
Simon Cowell brought Philip back down to Earth, commenting, “It was like the World Record for how many impersonations you could do in two minutes. I found it difficult to keep up with some of them, but the ones that worked were great. You’re a naturally funny guy, slightly bonkers but I like that,” and sending Philip off the stage with four out of four Yes votes.
The 21-year-old Body Shop Customer Consultant told judges that his dream is to be on stage, and this BGT audition certainly opened some doors, despite him being voted out after his semi-finals performance. Philip, now 32 years old, currently works as a professional stuntman, YouTuber (@PhilipGreenShow), and actor, his latest role being Mr. Ludcomb in the 2024 TV series, “Pickle Storm.”
Philip Green’s unforgettable audition on Britain’s Got Talent is a testament to his unique comedic flair and captivating stage presence.
