The coaches’ performance on The Voice has become a staple of the show and a fan favorite among viewers. Each year, the coaches on the show come together to give a performance of their own, showcasing their credentials as experts in the art of music and performance. While typically performed live onstage, things had to be done a little differently in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with some imagination and creativity, the coaches’ performance was just as impressive as ever.
In their socially distanced video, the performance opened with coach John Legend discovering a piano outside an apartment building and playing ‘One Love’ by Bob Marley. One by one, fellow coaches Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, and Gwen Stefani joined in with the song from their respective apartment windows, reflecting the lockdowns in effect at the time. Bob Marley’s classic number was exactly the kind of uplifting encouragement people needed, as the online video hit over 2M views.
Many artists shared optimistic or hopeful music online during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing a sense of strength and solidarity while fans were stuck at home in quarantine. While The Voice coaches’ performance was designed to do just that, there were certainly many who were glad to see them get back to their usual live performances in 2021. With Ariana Grande joining as a coach to take the place of Gwen Stefani, the coaches took to The Voice stage once more to deliver a new performance.
