“Pure innocence” of brother and sister Nathan & Eva’s sweet kitchen duet on “Hero” captivates 21 million fans, and keeps viewers coming back again and again

Brother and sister duo Nathan and Eva Leach look like your average pair of school kids chilling in their kitchen, but their cover of Family of the Year’s “Hero” would make them YouTube stars to the tune of 21 million views. The sweet domestic vibes and how unassuming the talented siblings are made them beloved by netizens worldwide. Nathan kicks off the song with a gentle acoustic melody and a yearning vocal. When the siblings start harmonizing, then something magical happens.

Sometimes with the right mix of talent and chemistry, you can really capture some lightning in a bottle. Nathan and Eva certainly did that here. The Music Man viewers will want to tune in at 2:30, where Eva impresses with a cheeky trick with her shaker, and Nathan catches the flying instrument without missing a beat and then continues playing guitar with the shaker in hand. That trick is the most watched part of the video, and it’s such a brilliant little moment between the siblings.

The Charleston, South Carolina duo uploaded their cover of “Hero” to their YouTube channel Nathan & Eva, where it became their most popular video. Fans had plenty of praise for the talented duo, and added comments such as “After all these years, still one of the best and purest things ever uploaded to YouTube” and “There is an organic innocence mixed with some burgeoning raw talent here that makes for an endearing performance. Great job and never stop.”

Nathan and Eva are no strangers to scoring viral videos with their duets. Another of their popular covers is their take on The Cars’ “Just What I Needed.” Nathan kicks off the performance with a bang by looping a cigar box guitar riff, then switching over seamlessly to acoustic guitar mid-song. Nathan again takes the lead vocal, and then Eva completes the pair’s signature vocal sound with plenty of gorgeous harmonies.

Nathan & Eva are a folk duo that began uploading their performances to YouTube in January 2013. The Music Man readers might be interested to hear that the siblings’ performances immediately gained traction. Their first duo upload, a cover of Phillip Phillips’ “Home,” hit 191,000 views.
Nathan and Eva first came to global attention with their viral March 2013 cover of Family of the Year’s “Hero.” The pair built off the popularity of that cover and now have 90,300 YouTube subscribers.
Nathan and Eva continued to collaborate over the years, with their most recent duo performance dropping on YouTube in January 2024. The siblings noted that they hoped to post more soon, but that their lives had “gotten busier and more unpredictable.”
