Miley Cyrus Pays Tribute To Taylor Hawkins With Grief-Stricken ‘Angels Like You’ Performance

On a brightly lit stage, in front of an enormous crowd of Lollapalooza Brazil 2022 festival-goers, Miley Cyrus broke down in tears, sobbing into her hands. She had received the news that her close friend, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, had passed away the day before. In an outpouring of grief, Miley shared with attendees how much she would miss him and how she wished she could have seen him one last time, as Foo Fighters had been scheduled to play the very next day of the festival.

As a tribute to her friend, Miley performed a highly emotional version of her song ‘Angels Like You’, with an image of Taylor Hawkins appearing on the enormous screen behind her. Her performance had attendees in floods of tears as they sang along, and Music Man fans will be amazed at her strong vocals throughout the performance despite having to wipe away her tears as she sang. The online video has since reached over 2M views, as fans flock to see Miley’s deeply emotional performance.

On top of her moving tribute at Lollapalooza, Miley had another chance to honor her friend at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute concert in September 2022. While her performance at Lollapalooza carried the raw power of her unfiltered grief, this time, she had time to plan and prepare for the tribute she would perform for Taylor. Luckily, her late friend had given her the perfect idea. In a voicemail, Taylor once told Miley that he would love to hear her sing ‘Photograph’ by Def Leppard one day.

So, that’s what she did. Joining Def Leppard on stage, fitting in perfectly with a rock-inspired outfit, Miley fulfilled Taylor’s wish by singing ‘Photograph’ alongside the lead singer of the band, Joe Elliott. Music Man fans who only know of Miley’s pop career may not be aware of the fact that the singer also boasts the ability to sing in a power-charged, raw rock vocal style. They will be amazed when they hear her sing in a performance that is sure to be exactly what Taylor had in mind.

Through her two performances, Miley Cyrus was able to give us an insight into what music can mean to us as we move through grief. At Lollapalooza, her grief-stricken performance of Angels Like You served as a raw, unfiltered outlet for pain, bringing fans together in shared sorrow. Later, her rendition of Photograph demonstrated how music can also celebrate a loved one’s life, honoring their legacy and the joy they brought to the world. In honoring Taylor Hawkins, Miley reminded us that music has the power to both express our deepest emotions and provide comfort in the darkest of times.
