Michael Galyean, AKA Blue Shirt Guy, became an internet sensation when he surprised fans at a Texas Longhorns game by dropping a slay cheerleading routine with the girls. The performance began with Galyean looking like an ordinary football fan who had wandered onto the field as the cheerleaders prepared to perform. A staff member goes up to kick him off the field and then Galyean objects, but then the cheerleading squad forms up behind him and the fun begins.
Galyean and the cheerleaders then begin a high-energy and saucy routine to Rihanna’s “Disturbia.” He does all the moves, getting right into the hip-swinging groove with the girls and absolutely crushes it. Galyean and the cheer squad 100% had the performance on lock, and the screams of delight that the lady near the camera makes throughout the performance say it all.
Galyean uploaded the video, titled “The night my life changed,” on his YouTube channel on December 19, 2022, where it gained one million views. The video title is very apt as the Texas Longhorns’ performance was Galyean’s first viral video. The clip really brought him to broader attention, gaining him not only fame online but also coverage from media outlets nationally.
Fans watching at home were loving what the Knoxville, Tennessee dancer was putting out that night. They added comments below the video such as “Absolutely killed it! Precision was on point!! Pop, lock and dropped it like a certified pro!” and “You’ve either got it or you haven’t. This guy’s definitely got it.” In February 2023, Galyean scored another hit on YouTube with a performance at a University of Tennessee basketball game, and by this point he’d really brought his act up a notch!
Nowadays Galyean is a professional dancer and performer, but The Music Man readers might be interested to know it wasn’t always that way. His journey into dance began when he lost his retail job and began focusing on his passions, which included acting and dance.
In the video description of the Texas Longhorns game dance, Galyean commented on his rise to internet fame, saying, “October 29, 2022 was the day everything changed. I got to fulfill a high school dream and dance on the sidelines of a UT game. And now I’m known as the ‘Blue Shirt Guy’ forever. Perfect.”
After the Texas Longhorns performance went viral, Galyean spoke to the Advocate about his motivation for performing, saying, “dance gives people a voice; it gives them an outlet to express themselves, and I think a dance studio or any performance area is just a safe space in general.”
