Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) and Jelly Roll got the Harley-Davidson Homecoming Festival up and dancing in 2024 when they played a rocking version of their hit ‘Lonely Road.’ Both singers looked overjoyed to be onstage together, and their sweet, melodic harmonies and heartfelt vocal performances have kept viewers returning to the video of the performance again and again.
Seeing their performance in person at the festival would no doubt have been quite the experience, with MGK rolling onto the stage on a Harley-Davidson bike, revving the motor and receiving a wave of cheers and screams from the crowd in return. Jelly Roll looked overwhelmed with pride as he watched MGK sing the opening verse, and it was great to see the bond the singers had clearly forged through their love of music.
If you’re not familiar with the studio version of ‘Lonely Road’, meanwhile, it’s well worth checking out. The song was released in July 2024 and lifts significant melodic elements from John Denver’s iconic country track ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’. According to MGK, the song took a lot of work to pull together: “we worked on ‘Lonely Road’ for 2 years, 8 different studios, 4 different countries, changed the key 4 times” he admitted over on Instagram.
And if that’s still not enough MGK and Jelly Roll content for you, Music Man readers, then why not check out this powerful live performance of the track from season three of Amazon Music Live. Once again, the pair keep the pure country music vibes flowing with their impassioned vocal delivery and the prominent acoustic guitar part in the instrumentation, bringing in hundreds of thousands of viewers in the process.
Jelly Roll and MGK have certainly had their troubles over the years (the two were once rivals in the music industry), but thank goodness they have put aside their differences and started making great music instead. It’s hardly surprising that, following the release of ‘Lonely Road,’ fans have been calling for an entire album from these two talented artists!
