McFly re-record ‘All About You’ with wives, chaotic children and chickens in NHS tribute

McFly brought a shining light to the first COVID-19 lockdown when they resurrected their 2005 Comic Relief #1 single, ‘All About You,’ for a brand new cause – to honor the NHS staff and key workers who kept the country afloat through its most challenging days.

Combining home studio performances recorded from each of McFly’s legendary members – Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter, and Harry Judd – this virtual rendition is just as flawless as the original, while being made extra special by some surprise guests! Music Man readers can check out the boyband’s viral video below – it’s already topped 3.1 million views to date!

The bandmates kick off this clip by sharing the context behind their brand new rendition, shouting out the staff who dedicate their time to helping others, with Tom wrapping up their message, commenting, ‘We wanted to say thanks the only way that we know how: through music. So, we’ve recorded this song […] to say that, right now, it is without doubt all about you.’

As McFly record their own vocals and instrumentals from their home studios, it’s clear their wholesome boyband chemistry and talent haven’t aged a day; their cover, filmed 15 years after the original, carries the song’s original magic and sounds as identical to their Comic Relief single as you can imagine.

But, as flawless as their new take is, it’s McFly’s surprise guests who make this rendition truly complete, as each band member welcomes their family (or in Dougie’s case, his chickens) to the stay-at-home stage, who sprinkle their own uplifting content over this cover.

Songwriter, guitarist, and lead vocalist Tom Fletcher lets his three boys delve into absolute chaos, one of them tooting a plastic trumpet, another adding his own drum beat to the track.

Co-songwriter, co-vocalist, and guitarist Danny Jones plays his instrument as his wife twirls and dances with their young son in the living room; soon placing his boy on his lap while playing guitar in a super-cute father-son moment.

Drummer Harry Judd lets one of his young children sit on his lap as he plays the drums, later handing his kids some percussive shakers and hand cymbals to lay a new beat beneath the timeless track. And, adding another layer of pure musicality to this updated cover, Harry’s wife, Izzy Judd (a pro violinist), recreates the single’s orchestral sound with some soothing violin harmonies, crafting the ultimate family performance.

But, in the midst of all the wholesome family clips, it’s single man Dougie Poynter, the band’s bassist, who lowkey steals the show, as he sings and dances with his chickens, plays swingball alone in his garden, and screams the final lyrics with a needed dash of punk-rock energy.

One top commenter on this viral vid spoke for us all when they wrote, to the tune of 4,100 likes, ‘Me: I swear, Dougie hasn’t aged a DAY since they first recorded this. My husband: Of course he hasn’t, he’s the only one without kids!’
