When Irish singer Mark McMullan walked onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage, it was unlikely he thought he was going to be leaving his audition for the show as an Internet phenomenon. But that is exactly what he has become, his highly emotional performance drawing praise – and tears – from fans of the show all over the world.
Introducing himself, Mark explained he had chosen to perform the song ‘Bring Him Home’ from the musical Les Miserables for his audition. When asked by judge Alesha Dixon why he had chosen that song in particular, Mark launched into an emotional story about it being a tribute to his older brother Declan, who had been left seriously disabled following a life-changing brain injury.
And as if that wasn’t emotional enough, Music Man readers, it turns out that Declan was present in the audience that night to hear his brother sing. Once Mark’s performance finally began, then, it’s little surprise that his stunning, emotionally raw vocal performance had the judges on their feet applauding and many people from the live audience in tears.
If you’re anything like me, you won’t be able to get enough of Mark’s beautiful voice after hearing his Britain’s Got Talent audition. If that is indeed the case, then have no fear – you can check out another live rendition Mark performed of the same song, this time on the longest-running chat show in the world, Ireland’s ‘Late Late Show’.
Unfortunately, Mark did not go on to win Britain’s Got Talent, although he did reach the final, ending up in seventh place after a performance of ‘She Used to Be Mine’ from the musical Waitress. We’re incredibly lucky, however, that Mark’s performances from the show are still available to watch on YouTube, so we can enjoy hearing his magical voice any time we like!
