Luther Vandross and Mariah Carey Deliver Spectacular Live Version of Endless Love

If you were around in 1994, you will probably have heard Mariah Carey and Luther Vandross’s version of the ballad ‘Endless Love’. If that is the case, then you need to listen to this incredible live duet of the song that the singers recorded in September 1994, which reveals not only how beautiful the song really is, but also the extent of Carey and Vandross’s insane vocal talents.

With Mariah looking stunning in a tasteful black top and skirt, and Luther looking super suave in a slick black suit, the two offset each other’s energy perfectly. Luther handles the lower vocal with his unmistakable smooth, rich tones, whilst Mariah sounds like an angel and handles the song’s higher harmonies with ease.

For Music Man readers who aren’t already aware, Endless Love was originally recorded by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross in 1981, going on to sell millions of copies worldwide and to be named one of the greatest duets of all time. Mariah Carey and Luther Vandross’s version puts a 1990s spin on the track, whilst also retaining the emotion that was so key to the success of the original.

As many fans have commented on YouTube, I think that several of the live versions of ‘Endless Love’ that Mariah and Luther have recorded over the years beat the studio version by miles. One of my personal favourite renditions is the one below, which sees the two singers performing the track at the Royal Albert Hall in London. With over 160 million views to date, it seems I am not the only one who is a fan of this rendition.

Luther Vandross and Mariah Carey’s version of ‘Endless Love’ might not be the original, but many would argue that it is the best version to be released to date.
