Luke and BigCountry brought the soul for DAYS on viral cut of “Tennessee Whiskey” on The Voice, dropping harmonies to die for, but who Queen Latifah sent home shocked fans!

When Queen Latifah assigned “Tennessee Whiskey” to BigCountry and Luke Cope, she set the stage for an explosive showdown. Instead of clashing, the two The Voice stars unlocked sheer magic together. BigCountry grounded the anthem with his rumbling baritone, delivering a powerful, dramatic vocal. Luke sang straight from the heart, delivering a soul de force that hits you DEEP in the chest. And the best moment of all came when they sang together. Check out that heart-melting harmony at 2:12!

This performance was truly a battle of the titans. BigCountry, fitting for his name, brought a bigger presence onstage, and really knew how to play up those key moments in the arrangement, both vocally and with his stage show. But for many fans, Cope stole the whole show with his deeply emotional delivery, even if his stage show was more lowkey. Queen Latifah had the unenviable choice of sending one of the brightest stars of the season home, and many fans were shocked at who sent gave her walking papers to.

In rehearsals, star guest advisor Patti LaBelle pushed Cope to stop holding back and trust the full power of his voice. That advice showed during the performance, earning high praise from the coaching panel. Coach Riley Green openly favoured Cope, pointing out his sharp vocal instincts and tight harmonies, and admitted he would have considered stealing him if he had a steal available. Meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson zeroed in on how comfortably the two singers shared the spotlight.

Adam Levine appreciated their vocal blend but felt drawn to BigCountry’s larger than life personality. When the moment came to decide, Queen Latifah chose BigCountry, pointing to his commanding presence and steady confidence under pressure. The outcome left Cope eliminated from the competition, breaking the hearts of many fans, who felt he won the battle. It has to be said that BigCountry made one of the biggest splashes of the season with his debut on The Voice though. He first caught the coaches’ attention with his Blind Audition performance of “I Put a Spell on You”, which went mega viral to the tune of 1.5 million views.

Cope’s elimination prompted debate among viewers in the comments. Many viewers disagreed with Queen Latifah’s choice, and added comments such as “I wish we could go back to the time where there are tons of steals and saves. Luke is easily deserving to move forward” and “It broke my heart to see Luke go but hopefully he will get called back, it is possible.” Some viewers did back BigCountry however, with one top commenter saying “Big Country is a force and a presence. That man can sang.”

BigCountry moves forward in the competition having proved that his talent stretches well beyond standard expectations. Originally from Bakersfield and now based in Tacoma, he has built a style rooted in church singing and open mics, creating a sound that fits country without being boxed in. Meanwhile, Cope leaves the show with his artistic identity intact and an existing catalogue of original music, including his 2026 EP, The Devil & The Crow.
