Who does it better than Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars? The pop dream team dropped “Die with a Smile” in August 2024 and instantly took the internet by storm with the 300 million view music video. Mars opens up the downtempo pop rock tune with a yearning R&B vocal and jangly guitar part. Gaga got her chance to shine with the second verse with an emotional vocal, which just gets better as the pair begin trading lines ahead of a gorgeous duet in the chorus.
The pair really nailed the ‘70s look of the clip, looking like a pair of golden era entertainers. This perfectly matches the dreamy, retro vibe of the music. The pair wrote the song together with a team of three other songwriters, and it seems they have some crazy chemistry in the writing room and, needless to say, on the mic as well. Gaga and Mars are two of our favorites here at The Music Man, and a collab from the two stars is just what the doctor ordered!
Mars has really been leaning into a retro sound in recent years, such as in the songs from his superduo Silk Sonic. He’s continuing the retro trip with the Gaga duet, and we’re all here for it! Fans were all shook up to get such a huge collab from the two hitmakers and added comments such as “This song is so new, but it feels so old. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are both legends” and “Whoever decided to pair these two together for a song is a genius. Thank you.”
Mars and Gaga have already taken “Die with a Smile” to the live arena, and it won’t surprise The Music Man readers to know that the song really pops off live! The pair recently performed the single at the Dolby Live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their live vocals are hella tight, and it’s a real testament to their talent that they can pull off such a big duet so flawlessly. Mars uploaded the performance to YouTube on October 30, 2023, where it has already gained 15 million views.
Gaga and Mars dropped “Die with a Smile” on August 16, 2024. Gaga and Mars co-wrote and co-produced the track along with a trio of outside collaborators. Mars invited Gaga for a songwriting session in his studio, where he showed her the incomplete song, and the pair completed writing and recording it on the same day.
