Lady Gaga and Adele come from very different worlds, but you will be shook when you hear how amazing they sound together! Taiwanese producer Andy Wu brought this surprise collab to reality by mashing up Gaga’s country hit “Million Reasons” and Adele’s piano ballad “Someone Like You.” He created a huge hit on YouTube in the process, as the mashup has now blown up to 29 million views.
The video opens with the iconic piano part from “Someone Like You,” but instead of pairing it with the familiar Adele hooks, Gaga’s vocals from “Million Reasons” drop in. The mashup then seamlessly switches gears to the guitar progression from “Million Reasons,” but now it’s Adele’s turn to sing “Someone Like You” over the top. It’s a surprising combo, but I have a feeling that many The Music Man readers will agree that it def works.
You’ve gotta give it up to Wu for his flawless production on the tune, as if you didn’t know the original songs, it’d be easy to believe that this was a real collaboration between Gaga and Adele. Fans were very impressed and added comments such as “How can anyone dislike this video? What great vocals and amazing songs. What a fantastic outcome. Glorious!” and “This is the best interpretation of this melody – two amazing vocals together. Bravo!”

While fans have created several creative mashups of Gaga and Adele performing, the pair have not collaborated in real life so far – although I’m sure it’d be a hit if they did. Gaga sure has given some cracking live cuts of “Million Reasons” with her own band, though, including a 24 million view performance in Nashville, Tennessee, which was shot on her Dive Bar Tour.
Gaga released “Million Reasons” on October 29, 2016, as the second single from her fifth studio album Joanne. She co-wrote the song with Mark Ronson and Hillary Lindsey. The songwriters took lyrical inspiration from a conversation that Gaga and Lindsey had about the relationships they had with the men in their lives. Adele released “Someone Like You” on January 24, 2011. She wrote the soul ballad with her producer Dan Wilson and dropped it as the second single from her second studio album 21. Adele addresses her heartbreak after her boyfriend broke up with her in the song, although she noted that the lyrics are about feeling OK with herself and the time she spent in the relationship, even if it didn’t work out in the end.
