You’re on tour in Toronto and Shania Twain is up front on a VIP seat. What Twain song do you cover? For Lady Antebellum (now Lady A), there was no question. Two months previously Lady A filmed a performance of You’re Still The One for Rolling Stone as a teaser for the You Look Good World Tour (May 2017). Charles Kelley, of Lady A, told Rolling Stone, “I’m a big Shania fan. You’re Still the One is a timeless song and a timeless melody.” Lady A already had You’re Still the One on their setlist!
In our featured video, Shania Twain and her friend Kelsea Ballerini, a support act on the Lady A tour, relish Lady A’s delicately wrought full-concert-production rendition of You’re Still the One. Twain and Ballerini joyfully sing along to the hit song that helped country star Twain cross over to mainstream success. The Lady A fans like it too – the entire audience is soon singing and swaying. Ready? Let’s watch Lady A playing You’re Still the One for Shania Twain. Enjoy.
Shania Twain released You’re Still the One on her third studio record, Come On Over (1997). Recorded with her super-producer husband, Mutt Lange, the track celebrates the success of their marriage, despite naysayers – Lange is fifteen years older. The song made #2 on the Billboard singles chart and won two country Grammys (best song and best female vocal). The Billboard Award-winning video for You’re Still the One was the first by a country artist to get rotation on MTV. It’s a popular song!
Commenting on our featured video, Ivy Mac exclaims: “I was there. I had no idea that SHANIA FREKIN’ TWAIN was there. Now I feel special.” Stave Michael says, “This iconic song deserves to be honored. This is a gift to humanity.” Noilda Andrea asks, “Am I the only one waiting for Shania to go on stage to sing along?” We can’t get Shania onstage with Lady A, but Music Man can show Shania’s friend Kelsea Ballerini joining Lady A to sing You’re Still the One on the Rolling Stone tour teaser.
In the Rolling Stone singalong video, Hillary Scott of Lady A starts the first verse, before handing over to Ballerini. It’s a compelling introduction, but the magic hits in the chorus, where the three members of Lady A (Dave Haywood on guitar, Charles Kelley next to him) are bolstered by both of their tour openers (Brett Young is next to Ballerini, on the right). What harmonies! Thereon, the singers swap parts. What a great on-the-couch singalong of You’re Still The One. No wonder Lady A nailed the song when they sang it for Shania Twain in Toronto.
