Across their five-decade career, Kiss wrote countless rock anthems, and they always delivered the goods live. A great display of their prowess as a live band was their cut of “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” on New Year’s Eve in 2020 at the Atlantis, The Palm hotel in Dubai. The band members were in their 60s and 70s at this point, but for rock gods like Kiss, age is just a number.
The final Kiss lineup of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer, and Eric Singer was all in red-hot form on the night. The four-piece not only created a tight groove with their instruments, but all four of them sang, and you better believe Kiss is a rock group that can sing with the best of ’em, as they showed on “I Was Made for Lovin’ You”. Guitar slinger Stanley took the lead vocal, and he definitely still had it as a rock ‘n’ roller at 68.
The live take of “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” in Dubai attracted 7.3 million views on YouTube, making it one of the most popular performances from the band’s four-year farewell tour. Kiss fans loved to hear the band do their thing in Dubai, and added comments such as “Spectacular! Doesn’t matter how many years it’s been, Paul’s vocals are still powerful and the band’s sound is solid” and “This is an incredible performance, after all these years this band is still one of the greatest ever.”
Kiss gave many memorable performances during their extensive farewell tour, but one that really stands out is their three-song set at the Australian Football League grand final in 2023. The grand final was just made for a Kiss show, with the band playing in the sprawling Melbourne Cricket Ground in front of 100,000 footy fans. For the occasion, Kiss played their classics “I Was Made for Lovin’ You”, “Shout It Out Loud” and “Rock and Roll All Nite”.
Kiss’s farewell tour, the End of the Road World Tour, kicked off on January 31, 2019, in Vancouver, Canada, and wrapped up with a hometown show on December 2, 2023, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Kiss played 250 shows on the exhaustive world tour. The band played multiple North American tour legs, as well as hitting Europe, Japan, Australia, and South America.
