When Keyla Richardson brought The Beatles to church on American Idol, the soul power was shining bright and strong, and wait ‘til you see judge Keke Palmer’s emotional reaction! Keyla picked Paul McCartney’s classic “With a Little Help from My Friends” to celebrate the friends who helped her find her purpose. When Keke heard a sneak peek of Keyla’s take on the Beatles number, she was so choked up with emotion she could barely get through her judges’ comments, and they both teared up in the moment.
Keke told the Florida talent: “That was ancestral, girl. What you’re doing is more than just singing. You’re embodying spirit through song.” Keyla then hit the Idol stage in Hawaii to perform the Beatles tune and delivered such a feel-good performance. The judging panel was just vibing – seeing the joy on Lionel Richie’s face as he moved to the music at 3:05 was just beautiful. The Music Man has to say Keyla is a major contender to take out Idol 2026.
Keyla performed “With a Little Help from My Friends” on March 24, 2026, and it hit 253,000 views in two weeks on the subsequent American Idol YouTube upload. Viewers were enjoying it just as much as the judges and added comments such as “There are no words, no words. She just took the Beatles song and took it to church” and “This is not a contestant, this is a performer, a superstar!!! What a performance!”
Keyla has given a number of fan favorite performances on American Idol 2026. Another highlight of her run this season is her take on Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years.” Many talent show hopefuls have performed the Twilight hit, but Keyla really made the performance unique by infusing it with her unique style and soul. The way she brought a fresh flavor to the melodies and just took it to a whole new place really showed off her talent as a singer and artist.
The Beatles issued “With A Little Help From My Friends” as the second track on their 1967 studio album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The song was credited to Lennon-McCartney, but it was written in large part by McCartney.

The Beatles dropped “With A Little Help From My Friends” as a deep cut, but Joe Cocker saw the opportunity at hand and issued it as a single in 1968. Joe scored a hit with his rearranged version of the song, topping the UK Singles Chart.
