Julie Andrews Learns How To Yodel

Back in 1965, the Von Trapp family entered into all our hearts in The Sound of Music. In the video below the real-life Maria von Trapp teaches the actor who plays her in The Sound Of Music, Julie Andrews, how to Austrian yodel.

This is a brilliant bit of musical comedy and talent.

The video below was recorded back in 1948 showing a 13-year-old Julie Andrews becoming the youngest solo artist to perform at a Royal Command Variety Performance! Julie Andrews: There’s Yodelling and then there’s…. yodelling

In the video above, the real-life Maria von Trapp explains how to yodel ‘properly’ on stage with Julie Andrew during an episode of a television variety show called “The Julie Andrews Hour”. The show was broadcast in 1972 and ran for one season.

The meeting of these two “Marias” resulted in a little comedic confusion from Julie who started out with the line, “You know I played you in the picture and you are you, and I am me, and since you are you and I was you, and since you’re here, and I’m here, and I was you, um…”.
