Stranger Things fans were blown away when they heard Steve Harrington actor Joe Keery’s gorgeous voice in this viral festival performance in Sydney

We all know Stranger Things star Joe Keery has some epic acting chops thanks to his iconic role of Steve Harrington, but did you know the 32-year-old has a gorgeous singing voice too? Fans were flabbergasted when they heard Keery’s viral performance with his indie band Djo at the 2025 Laneway Festival in Sydney, Australia. Keery and the band create a dreamy atmosphere in the live cut of his breakout hit “End of Beginning,” while the actor floats a honeyed vocal over the top.

It’s no surprise that Keery’s performance went down such a treat in Australia, as after all, his band takes a big influence from the chilled psychedelia of Aussie act Tame Impala. Djo creates such a relaxing, comfy vibe on the track, and when the whole crowd sings the hook back to Keery just after the two-minute mark, you can tell they’re really feeling it. The Music Man is a big Stranger Things fan, and we just found one more thing to love about multi-talented Keery!

Aussie radio station Triple J uploaded Djo’s Laneway Festival performance on February 11, 2025, and the video has already been viewed 2.1 million times. Fans were mighty impressed to hear Keery crush it as an indie rock frontman and added comments such as “I can’t believe I’ve been listening to Steve Harrington all this time!” and “15 years down the line this video of Djo singing this song will make people feel nostalgic about the good old days. Songs like this are rare and performances like this are even rarer.”

Many fans also noted how much the live performance showcased the improvement in Keery’s vocals, even since he first dropped “End of Beginning” in 2022. Keery has produced several viral videos with his live performances since his breakout that year. Another fan favorite performance is his 2022 Lollapalooza set, the highlight of which is the band’s take on “End of Beginning.”
