Jessi and Henry Lau are a killer combo! K-pop’s dynamic duo raised the roof with a high-energy performance of Tones and I’s smash hit “Dance Monkey,” but not quite like you’ve heard before. Jessi owned the stage with her effortless confidence and charisma, and let me tell ya, the lady has some serious pipes on her! Lau created a brilliant arrangement for the track in his one-man band style, first looping a synth melody, before adding finger clicks for percussion and then taking up his violin for a grooving solo.
The Canadian-born star wasn’t done yet, though, as he then picked up a mic and added a low harmony to match Jessi’s lead vocals. He then hyped up the crowd big time for the pair’s dual vocal chorus. The Music Man readers probably won’t be surprised to hear that the Jessi and Lau duet was a viral hit for the pair, blowing up to 10.7 million views on YouTube.
Lau uploaded his duet with Jessi on September 13, 2023, and since then it’s earned a place as his fifth most popular video on YouTube. Fans loved to see the two K-pop stars work the stage together, and added comments such as “No wonder Henry and Jessi are considered some of the most talented idols in the industry” and “I have goosebumps watching this. I can’t imagine myself being there to experience this live. Their chemistry is crazy!”
Lau sure knows how to pick a duet partner, as his most popular videos all feature duets with female artists. The Canadian star’s most popular video to date is his duet with Ailee on Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” Naturally, he switched up the arrangement of the song in his signature style, and wow, what an incredible voice Ailee has. It’s not easy to take on Adele’s song, but she’s got the voice to match the task, no doubt about that.
Henry Lau is one of our favourite K-pop soloists here on The Music Man, thanks to his gorgeous voice and creative arrangement and songwriting skills. Lau left his hometown of Toronto, Canada, after he successfully auditioned for South Korean agency SM Entertainment. He subsequently debuted in 2008 as a member of the Super Junior China sub-group, Super Junior-M. From 2013 onwards, Lau has built a chart-topping career as a K-pop solo artist with three hit studio albums in Korea. One of his biggest platforms is his YouTube channel, which has 2.43 million subscribers. Lau uploads weekly videos on YouTube in a variety of formats, using the videos to showcase his skills as a vocalist, violinist, pianist, and more.
