“I think she made millions cry,” a fan said after watching 25-year-old mum of three Hannah Harper’s emotional audition on American Idol 2026. Hannah shared her journey of overcoming postpartum depression with her quirkily named song “Stringed Cheese,” delivering a yearning and nostalgic vocal that had judge Carrie Underwood tearing up. Hannah gave one of the most popular auditions of the season so far, and many viewers said that the singer-songwriter had the magic touch that would make her a star.
Hannah struggled to get through sharing her story at the start of the audition, but once she started to sing, there was no doubt that she was something special. She not only has a great voice, but her abilities as a singer-songwriter made her really stand out. Carrie noted this after hearing “String Cheese,” saying “That’s about the most relatable song I’ve ever heard.” The Music Man readers won’t be surprised to hear that the judges gave Hannah a well-deserved ticket to the Hollywood week.
American Idol uploaded Hannah’s audition on February 3, 2026, where it hit 618,000 views in a week. The Willow Springs, Missouri-based singer hit the mark for viewers, who added comments like “Maybe it’s just me but her voice and the song she wrote remind me so much of Dolly Parton hopefully she goes all the way” and “She has the look, the voice, the charisma, and even the name. She has vulnerability and a message. She already won us all over.”
Hannah recently dropped into The Acoustic Shoppe channel to cover Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One.” This song is the perfect choice for Hannah, and she brings a whole lotta feeling to the duet. The Music Man has to say that this performance shows that she not only excels with her original music, but can also make classic hits her own.
