On the 13th season of America’s Got Talent, Simon Cowell finally got the chance to see the audition he’d always dreamed of: a singing dog.
When 59-year-old Pam and her three-year-old Golden Retriever, Oscar, hit the stage, with an upright piano waiting for them in the background, Simon’s face instantly lit up. But as Pam began to reveal, “Oscar has a very unique talent… he can sing! When I play the piano, he can sing!” Simon was stunned into absolute disbelief, asking the dog owner, “Are you winding me up?”

With Pam adding, “[Oscar] can even do a vibrato,” Simon simply HAD to get to the bottom of this quirky talent. Asked how she’d trained her dog to sing, Pam told the judges, “He started singing about a year and a half ago in my living room when I was playing the piano. And so, then I worked with him and now he really sings.”
Simon admits that he “doesn’t want to expect too much” – but he was totally unprepared for what happened next!
Almost the second Pam starts playing Pachelbel’s iconic “Canon in D” on the piano, Oscar, sitting beside her, begins howling along to the piece. However, it’s not the generic howling you’re likely imagining. Oscar howls in tune, following Pam’s chords with his voice and even changing pitch mid-howl to match her notes!
Oscar looks round to his shocked audience, soon releasing another elongated howl which has show host Tyra Banks commenting in surprise from the stage wings, “He’s on key!”
As their short piece wraps up, Simon instantly gives the unlikely duo a standing ovation. And, in an ultra-cute moment, the crowd chant Oscar’s name, sending the dog excitedly spinning around in circles, knowing he’s given a stand-out performance.
After serving one of the most unexpected and legendary auditions in the history of AGT, Oscar and Pam were unfortunately booted out in the following round – the Judge’s Cuts. Yet, this audition lives on in the hearts of countless dog lovers, proving that humans aren’t always the only musical creatures in a household!
Years after their 2018 audition, fans are still smitten over Oscar and Pam’s performance, with one top commenter on this viral YouTube clip writing to the tune of 1.4K likes, “The way he looked back at the audience when he was singing… I legit have tears running down my face, I don’t know why.”
Another fan wrote, with 2.1K likes, “I would buy his album.”
