You’ve never heard Oasis done like this before, and Scary Pockets’ viral cover of “Wonderwall” has so much funk in the trunk that it made fans forget the original!

You ain’t heard Oasis like this before! Fans of the legendary British rockers probably didn’t know they needed a slithering funk take on their classic “Wonderwall” in their lives, but we’re sure glad that Scary Pockets delivered the goods. The LA funk collective teamed up with vocalist Darren Criss to lay down a loose and poppin’ groove on the 1995 hit. I’ve rearranged some songs for bands in my time, but I never would have guessed you could make “Wonderwall” go this hard as a funk song.

Clearly, Scary Pockets are aptly named as the boys are so deep in the pocket here that there’s no retrieving your keys from this jam. The five-piece band delivers an old-school ‘70s vamp here that will definitely get your head nodding and feet tapping. Criss was the perfect choice to rock the mic on the cover, as he’s quite entertaining and brings so much to the vocals, taking the hit to a completely new place. The Music Man is also a big fan of how much fun the lads are having here, making the cover a feel-good watch.

Scary Pockets went viral for their inventive cover of “Wonderwall,” clocking up 5.1 million views on YouTube. Viewers were duly impressed and added comments such as “From now on, I only ever want to hear ‘Wonderwall’ if it sounds like this” and “I’m a huge fan of Scary Pockets and the funk sauce you apply in the songs you not only cover but reinvent. You guys are funky af!”

Scary Pockets have scored plenty of YouTube hits with their funk covers. One of their biggest uploads to date is their take on Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” The band teamed up with Mario Jose here, and let me tell ya, Jose has an incredibly lithe tenor, which is exactly what you need when taking on the big vocal runs of Axl Rose. The band delivers the goodies here with an inventive arrangement that takes the classic to a fresh place, complete with a smooth trumpet rendition of Slash’s famous guitar solo.

Scary Pockets dropped their “Wonderwall” cover back in 2017, and it did some big numbers back in the day. However, the Music Man readers might not be surprised to hear that the cover has attracted renewed attention from netizens after Oasis announced their long-awaited reunion tour for 2025. The tour will no doubt be featuring “Wonderwall” in the setlist, as it’s Oasis’s biggest hit by a huge margin, as anyone who’s ever hung out in a guitar store can attest to.
