A fan-made edit of “Cupid”, which sped up the song, initially went viral on TikTok. The official version of “Cupid” then blew up big time on multiple national charts across Asia and the West, catapulting the newly formed girl group to global stardom. You might just be smitten with Fifty Fifty too once you hear that brilliant one-two punch of Aran and Sio’s opening two verses, which are amazing showcases for their charming voices.
Fifty Fifty released the live studio session of “Cupid” on YouTube on April 27, 2023, where it blew up to 60 million views. Fans raved about the performance below the video, adding comments such as “Gosh, Aran’s voice is actually magical. All the girls sound so amazing and their live vocals are on point!” and “Feel so blessed simply by watching four angels singing in harmony.”
It might not surprise The Music Man readers to hear that the four-piece are not only great singers, but they can also throw down on the dance floor! Fifty Fifty showed off their performance skills at a baseball game on April 29, 2023, where they sang “Cupid” and showcased the adorable dance routine to go along with the hit song.
Fifty Fifty debuted in November 2022 and broke through commercially with their second single “Cupid” on February 24, 2023. After going viral on social media, the song hit the top 10 in the UK, top 20 in the US, and topped the charts in Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam. “Cupid” was a significant commercial breakthrough for not only Fifty Fifty but also K-pop more broadly, as the song stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks, which was a record-breaking streak for a South Korean girl group. It also broke boundaries in the UK, where the group became the first South Korean girl group to hit the top 10. Unfortunately, there was trouble brewing for Fifty Fifty, as after a legal stoush with their label Attrakt, which began in June 2023, members Aran, Sio, and Saena departed from the group, going on to form a new group called Ablume. Meanwhile, the label reformed Fifty Fifty with the sole remaining original member Keena and four new performers, who released the Love Tune EP together in September 2024.
