California rocker Dakota Cohen brought Black Sabbath to The Voice stage in style with a performance of “Changes,” the Black Sabbath ballad originally sung by the late great Ozzy Osbourne. The 25-year-old won the hearts of fans with an audition that had it all – power, range and a touching take on the piano ballad. Only two coaches turned, however – and only near the end – despite the crowd’s enthusiastic reaction. Dakota’s deliciously raspy approach earned praise from coaches and viewers alike.
The coaches had us just about having kittens, as the Cali singer was absolutely killing it out there but it seemed no one was going to turn. Near the end, Adam Levine and Riley Green finally turned for her. Adam compared Dakota’s voice to that of Miley Cyrus, another singer who can nail the rock classics, and The Music Man has to agree there!
Dakota sang “Changes” on The Voice on October 5, 2026. Viewers online singled her out as one of the night’s standouts.
Black Sabbath’s 1972 classic “Changes” has hit the zeitgeist again in a big way recently. This is partly thanks to Yungblud’s insanely viral performance of the ballad at Black Sabbath’s final show on July 5, 2025, which took place just 17 days before Ozzy passed away. Yungblud brought so much heart and his own style to the song, while also paying so much respect for Ozzy in his delivery, that it really put the 29-year-old singer on the map for a lot of old school fans.
Dakota Cohen got a warm reception from the coaches after her audition on “Changes”. Queen Latifah had no shortage of praise for the 25-year-old, saying “Your voice is astounding, beautiful, raspy, raw, gritty.” She called it “an insane performance” and praised the audience’s reaction. Dakota took this praise with good grace, but if Queen Latifah was such a big fan, why didn’t she turn her chair?
Dakota eventually picked Adam Levine as her coach, which The Music Man has to say was a great choice for her style.
