Dressed in a smart suit, 16-year-old Christian Guardino took his place on the America’s Got Talent 2017 stage. When the judges asked how he was, he replied, “I’m good; I’m nervous.” When the time came for him to sing, he took a deep breath. Then, he launched into a performance of ‘Who’s Lovin’ You’ by the Jackson 5 – a classic many of our Music Man readers will love. Simon’s eyes widened in amazement, and Howie’s jaw dropped as Christian’s soulful voice filled the arena.
After Christian’s performance, Howie asked what his greatest wish would be at that moment, and Christian replied, “Probably the golden buzzer.” Then, shocking everyone, Howie replied, “Well, your wish just came true,” as he slammed his hand on the golden buzzer, causing confetti to rain down on stage. Fans of the show were as amazed by his performance as the judges. One viewer of the online video commented, “Goosebumps from the minute he opened his mouth!”
In 2017, Christian made it all the way to the semifinals of America’s Got Talent. Despite charming the audience and all of us here at The Music Man, Christian didn’t make it to the finals. This wouldn’t be the last we would see of Christian Guardino, though. In 2022, he returned to compete in American Idol. While 21-year-old Christian appeared far more confident than 17-year-old Christian, he admitted he was still “a little anxious” to be in front of the judges.
This time, Christian performed a cover of ‘A Song For You’ by Donnie Hathaway. Once again, he blew the judges away with his soulful voice, even prompting them to burst into spontaneous applause during his performance due to how impressed they were. Lionel Richie hugged Christian at the end of his performance, proclaiming, “We found him!” in reference to their search for the next American Idol. In receipt of a Golden Ticket, Christian was once again through to the next round of the competition.
While Christian was eliminated in the Top 5 round on American Idol, luckily for our Music Man readers who love Christian’s voice, he has continued to share his talent with the world by releasing his own music. Since his appearance on the show, he has released five singles, alongside two that were released before his time on American Idol. He has also continued to perform in the New York area. Christian’s story and his stunning performances are an inspiration to all those who suffer from nerves and self-doubt, proving that if you put yourself out there, you never know what amazing things you’ll be able to achieve.
