We won’t blame you, Music Man readers, if right now you think that it’s impossible to cover a Fleetwood Mac song and have it sounding better than the original. But after watching this video of siblings Chase and Sierra Eagleson taking on the iconic Fleetwood Mac ‘Landslide’, you might just find that your mind has been changed!
Racking up six million views to date, the Eaglesons’ version mixes the pretty, plaintive melodies of the original with some classic country instrumentation, using a guitar and a banjo for the accompaniment. Sierra’s lead vocal sounds like “a warm cup of coffee” as one particularly over-awed viewer put it, while Chase’s backing harmonies are really that cherry on top. It’s little wonder that even hardcore Fleetwood Mac fans are singing the praises of this beautiful cover.
One of the many good points the video’s viewers have pointed out about the cover is the warm and cozy vibes it brings, with the warm, low light used in the video giving it a cozy, almost autumnal atmosphere. Viewers love the banjo parts too; they really do lend the cover that extra bit of sparkle, even though you would probably think the banjo would be the last instrument you would use to cover an acoustic ballad like ‘Landslide’.
But whilst the cover of ‘Landslide’ has clearly gone down well with the duo’s YouTube viewers, the most popular video on Chase’s channel is his cover of Coldplay’s ‘The Scientist’. Again, Chase brings the warm and cozy vibes by lighting the video with candles and fairy lights, whilst his rich, melodious voice floats like air over his perfectly played guitar part. The cover is instantly calming and sends you to a place where you really start to connect with the song’s lyrics.
We love Chase’s cover of ‘The Scientist’, but our all-time favorite video on his channel has to be the version of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Landslide’ that he performs with his sister Sierra. The atmosphere of the recording is so perfectly pitched, and coupled with Sierra’s beautiful vocals and Chase’s exceptional guitar playing, it creates a cover that almost certainly tops the much-lauded original.
