Two TV singing sensations collided on The One Show back in 2018 — Britain’s Got Talent golden buzzer winner, Calum Scott and legendary X Factor winner, Leona Lewis duetted on a spine-tingling cover of Calum’s second single, “You Are The Reason.” On a stage surrounded whimsically by candles and fairy lights, these two vocalists gave a magnificent, intimate performance that’s since gone on to claim over 1M views on YouTube!
Calum’s tender voice began the live rendition, splitting his first verse in two with Leona before stunning the audience with impeccable chorus harmonies, Leona’s top notes so flawless even Calum smiled at her amazedly.
Backed by a live band, a string quartet, and backing vocalists, this performance swells beautifully with every passing verse. Calum, decked in a smart traditional suit, proves to be a stellar match for Leona, glitzed in a golden dress and black thigh-high boots. Their voices ribbon through each other’s like pros, sensitive, mesmerizing, and powerful.
Hull-based singer, Calum Scott (aged 29 at the time of this performance), shot to fame with his sensational audition on Britain’s Got Talent’s ninth season. His sister, Jade, had been sent off the stage with a shocking four out of four No votes after singing U2’s “With Or Without You” — but Calum’s ballad edition of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” was so raw and refined that Simon Cowell, in a shock move, awarded Calum his Golden Buzzer.
After finishing in 6th place in the BGT finals, Calum released “Dancing On My Own” as his debut single, followed by “You Are The Reason” over a year later in 2017. This song went on to gain ridiculous levels of success for a TV talent show star: over 1 BILLION views on YouTube to date on the track’s official music video, padded out by 613M views on the official duet version with Leona Lewis. Calum’s music has made him an internet sensation, racking up over 400 million YouTube views on his Britain’s Got Talent audition and a shocking 530M on his debut single.
London-born Leona Lewis (aged 32 during this One Show duet) claimed lasting fame as 2006’s X Factor winner. Her second single, “Bleeding Love,” was pronounced the UK’s best-selling single of 2007 while her debut album, “Spirit,” became the fourth best-selling album of the entire decade. More recently, Leona married her long-term partner Dennis Jauch in 2019, holding their wedding at Sting’s Il Palagio estate and welcoming their first daughter, Carmel Allegra, three summers later.
