13-Year-Old Breez Carver Recovers From Tearful Beginning To Triumph On AGT Dance Audition

13-year-old Breez Carver started her impressive dance audition on America’s Got Talent with a bubbly interview with Sofía Vergara, although she was quickly overcome with tears when asked about why she started dancing. The teen, who auditioned to Kelly Clarkson’s “Piece by Piece,” said that she started dancing when she was five years old. She continued, saying, “When I was little I was adopted, and I was really shy, and I’d always hide behind my mum.”

At this point, Breez teared up, but after some further questions from Vergara, the teen said, “And then my parents, now, that I love so much, they thought that dancing would be really good for my confidence.” Her parents’ plan definitely worked, as despite the tearful start, a confident Breez owned the stage and gave a graceful and technically precise audition to the Clarkson ballad.

Breez’s choice of “Piece by Piece” was very inspired, as Clarkson wrote the song about her absent father and her love for her own daughter. Breez was definitely channeling that personal meaning of the song for her in the dance, which made the performance really powerful. There weren’t many dry eyes in the room as she performed, you can bet on that one.

Breez’s style is based in ballet, with a contemporary edge. Despite her young age, she has mastered gymnastics techniques, and wowed the audience with an impressive array of flips and jumps that would have taken incredible skill and strength to perform. Her audition was quite popular online, and gained 3.4 million views on YouTube. Breez’s second most popular video on YouTube is a performance from when she was just 10, which shows that she had some serious skills even back then.

Fans online were really impressed with Breez’s audition and added comments such as “She’s just amazing and has advanced gymnastics skills. The emotions she transmits while dancing are amazing. I’d given her a golden buzzer cause I know about dancing” and “She seems like such a sweet girl. She has a lot of talent and skill. She’s amazing.”

The judges gave Breez a standing ovation after her audition. Vergara commented first with a whole lot of praise, saying “That was perfection. You were meant to do this. You looked like you were floating, that you were enjoying it. I can see the future opening up for you.” All four judges were impressed and gave Breez four yes votes, sending her to the next round.
