When Billie Eilish tried to write her next hit song with these adorable first graders, things got real chaotic real quick! The pop star dropped into Garvanza Elementary with her brother Finneas O’Connell, and kicked off proceedings by asking the kids to scream their names at the top of their lungs, prompting a concerned look from their teacher. The pair then got down to trying to write a hit, starting with Finneas playing piano. As The Music Man readers might have guessed by now, things didn’t go quite to plan.
The writing sesh got off to a bizarre start when the kids began suggesting lyrics, as they first suggested writing a “freaky” song about Kendrick Lamar. Perhaps not wanting to start beef with the mercurial rapper, Billie settled on writing a song about a heartbroken polar bear after taking some further instructions. The winning combo of Billie’s bubbly personality and the big smiles on the kids’ faces throughout makes the video a real joy to watch, which is perhaps why it quickly blew up to 2.5 million views!
Billie closed the segment with a rambunctious performance of her new “hit” song with the kids at the front of the classroom while their teacher watched on proudly. Fans couldn’t get enough of the songwriting sesh and added comments such as “Whenever Billie does anything like this with kids, the results are always spectacular! Ironic that she never went to school herself. Great job, everyone!” and “This absolutely melts my heart. Billie and Finneas are so good with kids.”
I guess if the whole being a Platinum-selling popstar thing doesn’t work out, Billie has quite the future working with kids, because it seems that she’s quite the expert at it. South Korean brand ODG put Billie up to meeting Korean kids in a segment that went live on July 13, 2024. Highlights included a young boy guessing that Billie has four followers on Instagram – not all that far off from her actual follower count of 119 million I suppose.
The Music Man readers might be interested to learn that both Billie and Finneas were homeschooled, which is something a number of viewers discussed below the Garvanza Elementary School video. It’s curious that Billie seems quite at ease leading the classroom, as it might have been the first time in her life she ever stepped into one.
