17-year-old South Dakota talent Bijou Belle turns Adam Levine’s chair in the first line with smoky take on Billie Eilish, but other coaches’ “weird” reaction causes fan controversy

One line in and Adam Levine has already turned his chair for this 17-year-old talent’s soulful delivery of Billie Eilish’s slow burn “Wildflower.” Bijou Belle got the talent, the velvety voice, and the style, but where were the other The Voice coaches? A top commenter said, “Only 1 turn is absolutely crazy. This girl can really sing.” A number of fans believed John Legend and Kelly Clarkson dropped the ball on this Rapid City, South Dakota, talent.

Bijou won a number of fans with her audition. Viewers watching at home added comments such as “These judges are weird. I really liked her nice tone and velvety voice. Reminds me of back in the day artists” and “So many good, distinct voices today, that full rich sound, memorable tone, and she let it ooze out of her. So fluid. Such a radio-friendly sound.”

Bijou has already made her second appearance on The Voice, where she sang The Weeknd’s “Die For You” during the battle round. The teen was paired up with Jaali Boyd for the March 17 duet. This performance showed a different side to Bijou’s voice, as she hit both higher and lower extensions with her melodies here.

Kelly was shocked when she heard Bijou was just 17 during her post-audition interview. Kelly praised her song choice and said, “I did like that you had a bit more power to it, because it’s cool to do something a bit different to what Billie does.” The Texas star did note that Bijou was a bit pitchy here and there, though. Adam agreed about the pitch in places, then wrapped his comments by saying, “I think what’s really great about your voice is when you started singing, you really captured my attention with your tone, and it sounded really beautiful.” Bijou then progressed to the battles round two weeks later, where she faced Jaali. Many viewers felt that it was a close-run battle. However, they also generally agreed with Adam when he declared that Jaali was the winner. This resulted in the end of Bijou’s run on The Voice.
