About Austin Brown
Brown started singing with Home Free in 2012 after a chance meeting with them on a Royal Caribbean cruise where he was performing as a singer. The group joined as guest performers and inspired by their performances, Brown asked if he could join when they had a space free.
Later in the year, Brown found himself invited to sing as a tenor for the group after an exit from the previous lead singer Matt Atwood who was expecting his first child and a new business venture. Since then, Brown has been performing with Home Free as their lead tenor and has been making quite the show of his talents. As well as a superb vocalist, Brown engages regularly as a writer and arranging.
Brown’s Solo Career
As well as an outstanding career with the group, Brown has taken off as a solo performer with his exceptional talents on the worldwide stage of YouTube. His channel, which now has 134,000 subscribers has some of his best solo covers and originals.
One of his most popular videos comes as a cover of the Righteous Brothers epic “Unchained Melody.” The video shows Brown and his friend and guitarist Steven Martinez sat in front of a gently flickering fireplace. The stripped-down video gives a simplistic yet elegant accompaniment to Brown’s crisp vocals.
Brown’s vocals are exceptional to say the least, his voice is clearer than a mountain stream, flowing from one octave to the next without a single dropped note. The accompanying guitar, played by the exceptionally talented Martinez is a perfect musical backing to the epic 1965 hit. The song has amassed a truly inspirational 4.7 million views and it’s really not hard to see why. The expert way in which Brown navigates this difficult song is effortless and a great showcasing of the performing talents of Brown. This highlights the complete lack of requirement for big bands and synthesisers to adjust the vocals of this exceptional a capella performer.
