In an age of elaborately produced digital music, a simple performance by three siblings gathered around a microphone in Tempe, Arizona, has reached millions of viewers. Daylon, Daura and Devon Veater—known collectively as Life in 3D because all three first names begin with the letter D—uploaded their cover of “Unchained Melody” on August 25, 2024. Although the song was written for the 1955 film Unchained, the Righteous Brothers’ celebrated 1965 recording made it an enduring favourite. The siblings discovered how naturally their voices blended while singing together during everyday household chores. Alongside their growing musical success, they have also studied demanding scientific and engineering subjects at Arizona State University.
Standing closely together in a relaxed, home-style setting, the siblings deliver the song through carefully arranged three-part harmonies. There are no extravagant sets, costumes or elaborate lighting effects to distract from their voices and their obvious connection as a family. The understated presentation has appealed to listeners who appreciate clean, traditional singing. One viewer commented: “You know what’s wonderful about this? They’re not afraid to sing a straight note. No American Idol vocal gymnastics, just clean beautiful tones that you can get ahold of and feel in your soul.”
The Music Man community may find that this traditional approach creates a particularly strong connection with listeners who have known the song for decades. For many, “Unchained Melody” is closely associated with courtship, marriage and treasured moments from their younger years. Describing the memories stirred by the trio’s performance, one viewer wrote: “On first date with the cute girl that became my wife, we played that song over and over as we danced. We just celebrated our 55 anniversary. You three took me back to the beginning.”
The video became the trio’s biggest YouTube success, attracting approximately 9.8 million views and more than 168,000 likes. It also inspired numerous reaction videos from vocal coaches, musicians and other online commentators. Life in 3D subsequently made its recording available through streaming services including Spotify and Apple Music, while “Unchained Melody” was also included on the trio’s 2025 album Oldies. The cover eventually reached someone with an especially important connection to the song: Bill Medley, a founding member of the Righteous Brothers.
In a reaction video released in October 2025, Medley watched the siblings’ performance alongside Bucky Heard, who joined him in the modern touring version of the Righteous Brothers. Receiving such warm recognition from the surviving founding member of the duo represented a memorable moment for the young singers. Medley praised their voices and harmonies while also joking affectionately that they “look so normal”—a remark that perfectly suited the trio’s casual, unpretentious presentation.
The performance continues to bring together listeners of different generations through a song filled with personal memories. One viewer shared: “When my hubby was in Vietnam I played this song everyday! He is home with me now! 60 years married!” Another captured the uplifting effect of the performance by writing: “The young lady’s smile is infectious… I can’t help smiling myself. Thanks for making us forget everything we have going on in our lives for just a few minutes.” For Life in 3D, three voices and one timeless melody proved more than enough to brighten the days of millions.
