When Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo performed a dazzling selection of Wicked soundtrack hits at the Amazon Prime special, “Wicked: One Wonderful Night,” their duets were so spectacular that they spawned a number of instantly viral clips.
One of these – a spotless rendition of “What Is This Feeling,” taken from the brand new installment, “Wicked 2: For Good” – has already amassed more than 548,000 YouTube views within just eleven days of reaching the site. And it’s not hard to figure out why! Music Man readers can watch the magic unfold in the video below…
Unlike Ariana and Cynthia’s movie-titling Prime performance of “For Good” (which you can find further down this page), the duo’s “What Is This Feeling” rendition comes studded with a full dance routine, fleshed out by a flawless team of backing dancers and a stage beautifully split in half-pink and half-green.
The lead ladies take center stage, serving pitch-perfect harmonies from their very first lines.
The pair’s somewhat odd chemistry may have lately become the media conspiracy of the year, but in this performance, Ariana and Cynthia use their rare bond to glitz this rendition with a bright sense of friendliness, excitement, and sisterhood, bringing their characters vividly to life without even being in costume.
They twirl around each other in playful dance without missing a moment of their intricate melodies, before handing the limelight to their cardigan-wearing backing dancers, who stun the live audience with their moves.
Don’t miss the moment Ariana Grande appears side-stage, tapping into her inner princess whilst unleashing one of the most angelically sung lines of her entire career, or the moment the camera pans to reveal choral singers dotting the viewing boxes of the theatre, above the bulk of the audience, crafting a truly surround-sound show.
But just as Wicked fans thought they’d been blessed enough, fellow franchise star Michelle Yeoh wows the audience with a moment of her own, dancing along to the roar of the crowd’s standing ovation.
An epic tap dance section follows, the stunned audience clapping along before Ariana and Cynthia reunite in the limelight for a final, show-stopping verse.
Fans simply can’t get enough of this rendition, with top commenters on this viral YouTube clip writing, “The light in the darkest of times,” and “Two strong, independent, beautiful women! Love you both!”
Other fans have revealed that this song is their favorite moment in the movie, while yet another viewer boldly admits, “Their voices are GORGEOUS, OMGGGGG!”
