South Korean drumming sensation Ami Kim just about took over YouTube with her mega hit cover of Europe’s classic hit “The Final Countdown.” Not content with the simple drum part on the original song, Ami gave the track a heavy metal workover, drawing a whopping 26 million views for her troubles! She delivered a thunderous double kick pattern over the chorus and did it in style while wearing sky-high purple high heels.
The Korean talent has built up quite the following on YouTube, and it’s no secret as to why. She always delivers a rock-solid groove and isn’t afraid to have a little fun with her performances. This winning combination has rocketed Ami to the top of YouTube. Eagle-eyed The Music Man readers may note that Ami’s take on “The Final Countdown” is more popular on the platform than most of Europe’s own live performances of the hit.

Her cover of “The Final Countdown” is her most popular video, although she has a dozen videos with more than a million views on the platform. Ami really loves to rock out, and her channel is packed full of rock and metal classics from the likes of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and Van Halen.
Fans were really impressed with what Ami delivered on “The Final Countdown” cover, and added comments such as “She is technical – her timing is impeccable and she has fun with it. Great job! Keep up the good work” and “Incredible improvisation, especially on the double pedal, makes the drums come alive. I like her playing.” Ami’s second most popular video is her cover of Van Halen’s “Jump,” where she really nails Alex Van Halen’s distinctive drum sound.
