Abigail and Afronitaaa were favourites to win BGT from their opening audition – bringing the Ghanaian energy throughout the entire series, they made their home country proud showcasing to the world the best of African dancing.
Despite 7 year old Abigail being unable to hear, she is one of the best dancers the show has ever seen! Their final performance was just as smile inducing as their previous dances and nearly landed them first place in a performance that has racked up 517k views in just 1 day! Watch their final performance below.
Abigail and Afronitaaa made an energetic entrance to the Britain’s Got Talent stage, as they ran to centre stage to stand in front of the judges. Danita Akosua Adomaah Yeboah, age 20, more famously known by her stage name Afronitaaa, introduced herself and her dance partner, Abigail Dromo, age 7, to the judges. Afronitaaa took the opportunity to shine the spotlight on her dance partner, sharing that she had become Abigail’s mentor after recognizing her enormous talent for dance.
Afronitaaa also shared that Abigail was deaf, and while she had recently had a hearing aid fitted, she still relied on feeling the vibrations of the music to inform her timing as she danced. The duo then proceeded to prove their talent, dancing to a mashup of songs by Fuse ODG. They combined Ghanaian style dance with contemporary dance, and brought energy and joy to the BGT stage. The audience reacted with uproarious applause, and the entire arena came to a standing ovation.
The judges loved the dancers’ performance just as much as the audience did. Amanda Holden described the performance as “so joyous”. Simon Cowell also praised the performance, calling it “one of [his] favourite auditions of the year”. Online viewers showed their appreciation too, with many proud Ghanaians gathering in the comments to voice their support with comments like “The whole of Ghana couldn’t wait for this video to be dropped. We’re all behind you.”
Abigail and Afronitaaa didn’t stick around to celebrate their success in the UK. They were soon on a plane back to Ghana in order to take part in yet another dance performance. This time, they were dancing alongside a number of other members of Afronitaaa’s dance school, Afrostar Kids Academy. The entire group proved their talent, demonstrating the value of Afronitaaa’s membership, as they brought the same energy to the stage as Abigail and Afronitaaa brought to their BGT audition.
It is clear that this duo has not only charmed Britain’s Got Talent judges and audience but also made their home country of Ghana proud by bringing their dance culture to the international stage. As the first Ghanaian dancers to appear on Britain’s Got Talent, they hold a unique and impressive position in the show’s long history. With their high-energy performance, dance talent, and Afronitaaa’s choreography skills, the duo has proved themselves as clear and strong contenders for the crown of this year’s series of Britain’s Got Talent.
