Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Please Please Please’ has become such an anthem since it was released a few years ago that it’s difficult to imagine the song being covered with great success by anyone else. Internet legends Postmodern Jukebox, however, have recently defied these odds and put out a 1970s-style cover of the song that even Sabrina’s hardcore fans have fallen in love with.
Featuring vocals by the inimitable Tori Holub, the Postmodern Jukebox cover takes the smooth pop production and instrumentation of the original and transforms the song into a stunning, soaring ballad, complete with strings, beautiful backing vocals, and a deep, rich lead melody. It’s little wonder the video has already racked up over two hundred thousand views on YouTube alone in a matter of days.
Indeed, if any Music Man readers are familiar with the music of 1970s acts like The Carpenters, then you will adore this cover, which undoubtedly takes inspiration from those kinds of acts. “The inclusion of the oboe totally makes this a 70s easy listening song,” commented one viewer, drawing attention to the authenticity of the Postmodern Jukebox version.
Of course, Postmodern Jukebox have uploaded many successful covers to YouTube over the years, featuring a variety of singers and musicians. One video of theirs which you might already be familiar with, for instance, is their jazz take on Radiohead’s ‘Creep,’ featuring the instantly recognisable vocals of Haley Reinhart.
For me, however, Music Man readers, I think my favorite Postmodern Jukebox cover on their channel at the moment is their 70s-style version of Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Please Please Please’. It’s an endlessly inventive and original cover that really puts new life into the song, and we’re sure Sabrina herself would be a fan if she ever stumbled across the video!
Postmodern Jukebox’s lush 1970s reimagining of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please,” featuring Tori Holub, is a nostalgia-soaked triumph that rightly has fans talking. Want to hear the cover, watch the video and explore credits? Find useful links to all of that and more below.
