Tyla Made Everyone Lose Their Minds With This Spicy Performance That Stole The Whole Show At The MTV EMAs

MTV wasn’t ready for Tyla! The Queen of Popiano held court at the 2024 EMAs and gave a mesmerizing performance that quickly went viral. Tyla sang her global smash hit “Water” and “Push 2 Start,” and there’s no denying that she has a completely magnetic stage presence. Her heartfelt R&B vocals on “Water” kicked off proceedings with a smoldering vibe, before she kicked up the energy big time with a routine on “Push 2 Start” with six backup dancers.

It’s clear that Tyla really knows how to effortlessly command attention on stage. Her “Push 2 Start” performance eventually expanded to a dozen backup dancers as she delivered a bewitching vocal while nailing the routine. The Music Man readers won’t be surprised to hear that Tyla is one of the biggest international stars to emerge from Africa in recent years, and the MTV performance really showed why she’s on top of the world right now.

MTV uploaded Tyla’s Europe Music Awards performance on November 11, 2024, and the video has since been viewed 1.6 million times. Fans gave plenty of love below the video, adding comments such as “Kudos to Tyla for working on her vocals. I’ve always liked her tone, but the control and clarity is even better than a year ago on ‘Water’” and “This is proof I was looking for. She is now growing and maintaining her status as a global artist.”

Since Tyla blew up commercially in 2023, she has given a number of high-profile performances internationally. Her most popular live cut on YouTube came when she dropped in to perform “Water” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. While at the EMAs, Tyla sang a shortened version of “Water,” but on The Tonight Show she treated fans to a full version of the international hit.

Tyla Laura Seethal is a 22-year-old singer who was born on January 30, 2002, in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Music Man readers may recall that she broke out as an international star with the release of “Water” on July 28, 2023. “Water” topped the charts in the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Romania, and Suriname. It also hit the top 10 in more than 10 countries, including the US. In addition to its chart-topping run, “Water” was a critical success for Tyla, as it won the Best African Music Performance Grammy, Billboard’s Top Afrobeats Song award, and MTV’s Best Afrobeats Video award. “Water” was the first single from Tyla’s self-titled debut album, and the album also spawned three other hit singles.
