Sara Berki Captivates Gabba With ‘Country Roads’ Cover

Australia may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of country music. However, one Australian country star has recently received plenty of online attention for her stunning musical talents. Sara Berki, born in Queensland and raised in New South Wales, has been making a name for herself on the Australian country music scene over the last two years. She grabbed people’s attention online when she sang at the Gabba in Brisbane in March 2024.

When she appeared to perform for the Brisbane Lions vs Carlton AFL match, Sara sang a cover of the classic country song ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’, originally by John Denver. Joined by Beau Hatch on acoustic guitar and Luke Moller on the fiddle, Sara played her guitar in the centre of the pitch and sang a beautiful and simplistic rendition of the song. The video of her performance received much attention, gaining over 2.9M views in only a few months.

Viewers were moved by Sarah’s performance, and they commented their appreciation under the video, as well as sharing stories about what the song meant to them personally. With various fans sharing sentimental tales and memories of the song, it’s clear Sarah’s performance had an emotional impact on many who watched it. One viewer even saw the performance live when they had attended the game and commented, “Just wanted to let you know that I will always remember this performance.”

Since her performance at the Gabba, Sara Berki’s fanbase has grown. Her latest single, ‘Tear You Apart’, has attracted the attention of many who first discovered her through her John Denver cover. Sara’s delicate vocals, backed up by a twanging country guitar, have charmed listeners all over again on the new track. Gaining attention across the world, with listeners in Korea, France, and the US, Sara has proven that her Australian country sound has global appeal.

Sara Berki is quickly establishing herself as one to watch in the country genre. She has already achieved chart success in her home country, with two top 3 singles in the Australian Countrytown chart. She proved herself even further in 2024, winning the APRA Professional Development Award for Country/Americana and being nominated for New Talent of the Year at the 2024 Golden Guitar Awards. With her steady stream of single releases, live performances at festivals across Australia, and now the online attention she’s received after her cover at the AFL, it seems Sara Berki’s rising star status is set to rise even higher.
