America’s Got Talent has seen its fair share of gifted young performers over the years, and the current season of the show is no exception. In fact, it has already showcased the talents of one of the most accomplished young performers who has ever been on the show – New Jersey singer/songwriter Journeyy Belton (entering under his artist name Journeyy), who was a mere nine years old when he auditioned a few days ago with an impressive, perceptive original song titled ‘Paradise’.
Dressed in a striped shirt and sporting a sweet smile when he walked onstage, Journeyy looked calm and focused as he took his place at the piano, ready to perform. What unfolded was a beautiful, apocalyptic song with lyrics that were so insightful it was hard to believe they were written by a nine-year-old. “You have a beautiful voice,” commented judge Heidi Klum, whilst Simon Cowell went even further with his praise, telling Journeyy, “you are somebody who has just got a God-given talent.”
Unsurprisingly, it has since transpired that Simon was actually a fan of Journey’s before he even came on the show. Having been shown one of the young man’s online videos by a friend, Simon reached out to the America’s Got Talent producers in the hope they could get Journey on the show so he could see him perform. In a strange twist, however, it turned out that Journey had already applied for the current season, having already been scouted to take part by the show’s producers.
Many of Journeyy’s previous videos can be found on TikTok and Instagram, although if there are some Music Man readers out there who found themselves transfixed by his original song ‘Paradise’ then we’ve got a treat for you. This version of the song, featured on YouTube, gives it a different vibe, adding keys, bass, percussion and essentially fleshing it out into a full track. The video currently only has about 7000 views, but no doubt it will blow up online following Journeyy’s audition.
As many America’s Got Talent fans have already recognized, Journeyy is surely one of the most original and creative kids to have ever taken part in the show. To be able to write songs like ‘Paradise’ at just nine years old is no mean feat – and as such, it’s little surprise that many online viewers have since protested that his audition was more than worthy of a Golden Buzzer!
