Calum Scott and Leona Lewis are both very successful British singers in their own right, but when they dueted on Calum's ballad You Are The Reason, the result was outstanding. Calum's name began to spread worldwide in 2015 when he reached the finals of Britain's Got Talent. He sang Robyn's Dancing On My Own in his audition.
He later released the song with a music video, and it has been viewed 472 million times on YouTube. Leona Lewis also became famous due to a talent show. She appeared on the third season of the X-Factor, beating Ray Quinn to take the crown. She released several successful albums, but her biggest success came from the single Bleeding Love.
It topped the charts around the world and made Leona a household name. She also covered Snow Patrol's Run and released the Christmas song One More Sleep. It seems meant to be then that these exceptionally talented performers should come together to record a beautiful ballad.
The song sounded incredible when Calum performed it alone, but Leona's voice takes it to another level. Their harmonies give the song a whole new dimension; it's almost like seeing an image in black and white when suddenly it changes to colour.
Some of the magic in this duet is undoubtedly due to their sublime singing voices. Another essential element, though, is how much they enjoyed working together. You can see the chemistry between them as they sing together in the music video. They hold each other's gaze throughout, and there is so much emotion in their performance.
Calum said that working with Leona was "a dream come true". He watched her when she competed in The X Factor, where she wowed the judges and the viewers with her beautiful voice. He continued, "Now having the honour of working with her on one of my own songs is completely surreal and the passion and raw emotion she brings to our duet makes it even more special to me."
Calum's admiration is not a one-way street. Leona seems equally delighted to be working with him: "Calum's performance on [the track is] stunning and I loved being able to join him to make this duet version."
