BuskersofGlasgow started as an Instagram account and a Facebook page, both run by a Glasgow-based music lover named Carolyn Sleith. Carolyn started recording videos of local buskers from around Glasgow and uploading the them to her social media channels – which she fittingly named “BuskersofGlasgow”. She now has 143,000+ followers on Facebook and is really helping local artists stand out online. Carolyn is single-handedly proving that Scotland has some serious talent on its historical streets.
BuskersofGlasgow is a non-profit organisation with the sole aim to promote the buskers around Glasgow to a wider audience using social media. Carolyn started uploading content to Instagram back in 2018 and took her brilliant videos over to Facebook shortly after. She aims to upload new videos every day fitting her recording schedule around her job and obviously when the weather is suitable for busking.
Carolyn is very happy with how her project is evolving. She wrote on her Facebook page, “We now have fans all over the world and a greater reach than I could ever have imagined when I started this page.”
Every busker who plays in Glasgow is eligible to be featured on her social media channels. If you’re a Glasgow busker and she happens to be there when you’re performing, you might be playing to many thousands of people online!
All the buskers that are featured are compensated for their performances which is another way Carolyn is able to help support the local music scene in Glasgow. This truly is a fantastic project, one which The Music Man is actively promoting as it really does help musicians turn their passion into an income. You can also help support this project yourself by sending the page “Stars” on BuskersofGlasgow Facebook page. All the money goes to the buskers featured on the page.
