Finneas (aged 27) joined his sister Billie (23) behind the desk, playing guitar and adding backing vocals. The pair was also joined by a suit and tie-wearing bassist Solo, drummer Andrew, and upright pianist Abe; their extra flourishes adding mesmerizing depth to this ethereal acoustic gig, bridging the gap between pop music and lullabies. It’s masterful how the band’s tender instrumentation intertwines and drops out to form atmospheric solos, all while Billie commands the room with her insane level of vocal control.

Billie and Finneas’ chemistry takes the spotlight through the hits, the pair joking together in the midst of “I Love You” before snapping straight back into pro-musician mode. When the track draws to a close, she makes the live audience howl when she said, “Sorry my voice is so f****** quiet, I’m nervous! I’m also dressed like a girl, it’s so weird. I was like, ‘I’m gonna go girl today!’”

Billie Eilish called the experience “nervewracking” but “so cool,” revealing, “I’ve wanted to do this my whole life, so I’m a little shaky but I’m really excited to be here.” And her fans are full of praise for this gig, taking to the YouTube comments in their thousands to write, “The fact she sounds the exact same live as she does on the track is insane,” “She needs to do an acoustic album” and “I love how precise and gentle her voice is. Every small inflection is [like a] chef’s kiss.”

Other viewers have praised the NPR Tiny Desk phenomenon that’s been taking over the internet for the last decade, commenting, “The Tiny Desks are becoming the new MTV Unplugged” and, “Nothing makes me respect an artist more than a Tiny Desk concert.”
