Benson Boone proved he’s one of the greatest modern American vocal talents with this performance! The one-time American Idol star knocked it out of the park with his breathtaking live cut of “Beautiful Things” at the BBC earlier this year. Boone delivered that Springsteen kind of folky honesty in the verse and then really pulled out the big guns in the chorus, sliding from belting to crooning and then a gorgeous falsetto. Talk about a man who can do it all!
Boone’s BBC Live Lounge performance went live on YouTube on March 26, 2024, where it quickly gained steam and clicked over to 3.1 million views. He dropped in for the BBC session just three months after releasing “Beautiful Things.” It was the perfect choice to capitalize on his big breakthrough with the single, which The Music Man readers may recall had just topped the charts all over Europe at the time.
Fans were in awe of Boone’s big vocals on the live sesh and added comments such as “This might be one of the best performed songs I’ve ever heard. This lad is amazing!” and “Once in a while we get treated to a true legend. It’s so refreshing.” Several fans suggested that the live cut is even better than the recording, which for a song with that kind of big chorus is no mean feat.
The session was quite fruitful, as it produced two hit videos. The singer also covered Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control” during the same set, which drew just over one million views. The cover was quite a change of pace from “Beautiful Things,” as Boone settled into a soulful groove for the number. Swims is not an easy singer to cover, but Boone did a great job of not only doing justice to the song but also putting his own spin on it. Make sure to suss his heavenly falsetto run just after 2:12.
Boone dropped “Beautiful Things” as a single on January 18, 2024. His fans among The Music Man readership may recall that the American singer had already scored two minor hits in his homeland with the songs “Ghost Town” and “Into the Stars.” However, “Beautiful Things” was his first big-time commercial breakthrough. “Beautiful Things” went to number two in the US and topped the charts over much of the Western world. It was such a big hit that it even went to number one on the Billboard Global 200.
