Normally, all buskers hope for is some money in their case, a kind smile, or a small crowd. Busker Allie Sherlock got more than she bargained for when British singer and superstar Ella Henderson appeared to sing a duet with her. That must have been a real treat for Allie and everyone who happened to be passing that day.
Ella shot to stardom after appearing on The X Factor in 2012. She only placed sixth but was offered a music contract by Syco Music. Since then, she has had a string of hits, alone and with prominent DJs like Jax Jones and Sigala. Her first album, Chapter One, went platinum in the UK and Ghost, the song she duets with Allie went triple platinum!
Allie, on the other hand, is an Irish singer, songwriter and busker extraordinaire. She became famous when her cover of Ed Sheeran’s Supermarket Flowers went viral in June 2017. She now has 5.75 million subscribers to her YouTube channel and has appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. This appearance helped her secure a record deal with Patriot Records, the label owned by OneRepublic lead Ryan Tedder.
She has appeared at prestigious venues like the Cork Opera House and Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall in Hamburg. She has supported OneRepublic during concerts in London, Paris, Cologne and Utrecht. The video of her performance with Elle Henderson shows that she has not forgotten her roots, though, and still heads back onto the streets to delight her fans.
Even though they are singing one of Ella’s biggest hits, Ghost, if you didn’t know anything about them, it would be hard to decide who the original singer was. They both sing with such power and manage to inject emotion into every note. Their singing ability is also evenly matched, so that shows you how amazing Allie really is.
