But now, Music Man readers, YouTuber Alex Melton is here to change that, having recently released an emo-inspired cover of the classic tune that the Internet doesn’t seem to be able to get enough of.
With over three million views on YouTube alone, it’s fair to say this particular genre twist cover has proven popular with even Coldplay fans themselves. When you hear the cover for yourself, meanwhile, you will quickly be able to see why – somehow, Alex makes it sound like the song was written to be recorded in this genre, replacing the delicate vibes of the original with big drum beats, anthemic vocals, and squealing guitars.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given how popular the video has become online, the YouTube comment section is filled with praise and compliments for this unlikely cover. “This could genuinely be one of the best cover songs I’ve ever heard in my life,” declared one viewer, while several others said that Chris Martin and Coldplay need to hear this version for themselves.
What will probably also not come as a surprise is that this emo take on Coldplay is currently the most popular and most-viewed video on Alex Melton’s channel. He has uploaded several covers with similar concepts in the past, though, which may intrigue viewers who enjoyed his unusual take on Coldplay.
